Coronavirus Update

Dear HSRA Family,

This message is to inform everyone of the steps that we are taking at High School for Recording Arts due to the recent outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). We want to share with you that HSRA will remain open subject to any directives otherwise from either the Minnesota Department of Education/Health and/or Minnesota State Government to close school. If there is a directive to close schools it will likely lead to adjustments in our school calendar.

There are currently multiple COVID-19 cases reported in Minnesota. Consequently, you have probably seen on the news, the CDC, Federal Government, and State Government have issued a variety of precautionary suggestions for people to follow. As a school community we are taking every precaution to be proactive and are watching for any updates in real time.

We are currently asking our students and staff not to panic or overreact but to prepare in case the situation develops and follow these basic practices.

  • If you are sick, stay home. If your child is sick, keep them home.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds each time, which is roughly two rounds of “Happy Birthday to You.”
  • Frequently clean commonly touched areas like door knobs and handles
  • Take better than usual care of yourself and your loved ones. Get enough sleep. Eat well.

We are thoroughly cleaning our school daily. We also have made sure we have stocked up medical and cleaning supplies needed as this situation develops.

We are evaluating and assessing risks associated with upcoming school travel and will make rescheduling or cancellation decisions on a case by case basis based on the most up to date credible information we receive. If your student is involved in travel we will let you know as soon as we can if there is any change to travel such as cancellation, and we want to emphasize that we respect any decision our students, their families, or staff may make to no longer choose to travel.

The U.S. Department of Education also has reminded all schools that during times like this, there are unfortunately increased numbers of reports of prejudice, stereotyping, harassment, and bullying aimed at people associated with the news cycle. Right now, we are encouraging all members of our community to continue following their recommendations to be sensitive towards staff or students “perceived to be of Chinese American or, more generally, Asian descent” due to the origin of this event likely taking place in China. Any harassment based on race or ethnicity violates our school’s mission and policies and will not be tolerated. We appreciate your help in creating a welcoming and tolerant environment for all students, their families, our staff, and community members during this challenging time.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact our Executive Director Tony Simmons at 612.803.9540 or call HSRA 651.287.0890. Please direct all news related inquiries to Tony Simmons (612-803-9540) or tony@hsra.org. Please also look at the following resources to stay up to date with the situation as it develops.
