What do playing basketball in the new gym, making homemade donuts, proposing projects, signing up for first semester classes, going to ValleyFair, and making beats in the new state-of-the-art recording studio have in common?

Answer:  They’re all things HSRA students participated in doing during the first week of the 2014-15 school year.

With school starting a week earlier than usual this year, teachers, students, and HSRA staff members wasted no time in launching right into the many learning opportunities which make HSRA a world-class school and innovative youth-centered facility.

When asked what the best thing was about starting the new HSRA school year, student Taj McLean, age 17, stated, “How understanding the teachers were.  When I went in and told Sayra [HSRA advisor] about how my summer went and what I was concerned about, she helped me with comfort and to get me what I needed so I could start school.”

Regina Jackson, an HSRA para-professional, added to the enthusiastic sentiment about the first week of school, by stating, “I noticed the positive energy levels.  The staff did amazing problem-solving and had a great sense of team work.  I also noticed the students really wanted to get to work.  I hope they can really keep that positive attitude now that we’re ready to get busy with their academic endeavors.”

If the first week of school is any indication, Jackson and others won’t have to worry about the positive energy levels and great attitudes among students continuing all year long.

With the new school year now underway, it’s clear, the best is yet to come.full week of new school year
